Visa Intelligence FAQs
Visa Questions & Answers
Clear answers to common questions about visa categories, financial proof, interviews, and refusal review.
Does Visaworx guarantee visa approval or embassy decision timelines?General
No. Visa decisions and processing times are controlled solely by government and consular authorities. Visaworx provides information, document review, and preparation guidance.
How is Visaworx different from a typical visa processing agency?General
Visaworx focuses on visa intelligence and preparation before application. We evaluate readiness, identify document gaps, and provide access to human experts rather than functioning as a high-volume filing proxy.
How many months of bank statements are required for a tourist visa?Tourist
Most consulates require 3 to 6 consecutive months of personal bank statements showing regular income credits and genuine personal savings sufficient for your intended stay.
Can I perform paid work for a local employer on a Business Visitor visa?Business
No. Business visitor visas strictly prohibit gainful local employment. They are limited to non-paid professional activities such as attending meetings, trade shows, or contract negotiations.
What financial proof is accepted for student visa applications?Student
Consulates generally accept liquid bank balances, official education loan sanction letters, government or university scholarships, and fixed deposits owned by immediate family sponsors.
Does Visaworx offer job recruitment or work permit sponsorship services?Work
No. Visaworx does not recruit or provide job placement. We assist professionals holding valid job offers in compiling and verifying employer-backed visa documents.
Do relationship certificates require official translations?Family
Yes. Civil certificates (marriage, birth) issued in regional languages generally require certified English translations that conform to consular submission standards.
What happens if there is a name mismatch between my passport and supporting documents?Documentation
Name mismatches frequently trigger consular queries. You should obtain an official name correction, submit an official affidavit, or ensure official gazette notifications are attached.
How should I answer questions during a US visa consular interview?Interviews
Answer questions concisely, directly, and truthfully in your own words. Never recite memorized scripts or volunteer unsolicited information.
Should I re-apply immediately after a visa refusal?Refusals
Rushing to re-apply without changed circumstances or missing evidence usually results in a second refusal. Evaluate refusal grounds objectively and address document gaps first.
Does a 'Good Foundation' readiness result mean my visa is guaranteed?Readiness
No. 'Good Foundation' indicates that your document assembly aligns well with typical requirements. Final decisions rest solely with government consular officers.
What documents are required for a Schengen visa from India?Documentation
Consulates in India generally ask for a passport issued within the last ten years with at least two blank pages, a completed application form, travel medical insurance covering all Schengen states, proof of accommodation and travel, and financial evidence such as stamped bank statements, payslips and income tax records. The exact list is published by the consulate deciding your application, so check that mission's own checklist.
How long does a Schengen visa take to process?Tourist
Under the EU Visa Code an application should be decided within 15 calendar days of being lodged. That period can be extended to 45 days where a case needs closer examination or further documents. The clock starts when the application is lodged, not when you book the appointment, so appointment waiting time sits on top of it.
How early can I apply for a Schengen visa?Tourist
You may lodge a short-stay application up to six months before your intended travel date. Consulates advise applying no later than 15 calendar days before departure. Applying early is usually the single cheapest way to protect a trip, because it leaves room for an extended examination without threatening your travel dates.
Do Indian passport holders need ETIAS?General
No. ETIAS is a travel authorisation for nationals who can enter the Schengen Area without a visa. Indian passport holders require a Schengen visa, so ETIAS does not apply to them. ETIAS is also not yet in operation. If you hold a valid Schengen visa, that visa is your authorisation to travel.
Which Schengen country should I apply to for a multi-country trip?Tourist
Apply to the country that is your main destination, judged by the length and purpose of your stay. Where you are spending equal time in more than one country, apply to the country you will enter first. This is a rule, not a preference, and applying to the wrong consulate is a common cause of delay.
How much travel insurance do I need for a Schengen visa?Documentation
Travel medical insurance must cover a minimum of EUR 30,000 in medical expenses, be valid in every Schengen state, and cover the full duration of your stay. Cover that stops before your return date, or that names only one country, is a frequent reason for a file being treated as incomplete.
Do Indian nationals need a UK visa, or is an ETA enough?Tourist
Indian nationals need a Standard Visitor visa. The UK Electronic Travel Authorisation is only open to nationalities on the ETA national list, and India is not on it. GOV.UK states that other nationalities cannot get an ETA and should check whether they need a visa instead. Applying for an ETA from India wastes time you will need for the visa.
How much does a UK Standard Visitor visa cost?Tourist
A Standard Visitor visa costs GBP 135 for a visa of up to six months. Longer-validity visitor visas cost more, and separate charges apply for optional priority services and for the visa application centre. Confirm the current fee on GOV.UK before you pay, as visitor fees are reviewed periodically.
How early can I apply for a UK visitor visa?Tourist
The earliest you can apply is three months before you travel. That is a narrower window than the Schengen six months, so if you are planning a trip covering both the UK and Europe you cannot apply for them on the same timetable. Appointment availability at the visa application centre sits on top of processing time.
How long can I stay in the UK on a visitor visa?Tourist
You can usually stay for up to six months per visit. Extension is possible only in limited circumstances, such as continuing medical treatment. The six months is a maximum rather than an entitlement, and the length of stay you request should correspond to the purpose your documents describe.
Can I work or study on a UK Standard Visitor visa?Tourist
You cannot do paid or unpaid work for a UK company or as a self-employed person, unless it falls under a permitted paid engagement. Some study is allowed, including recreational courses of up to 30 days. You also cannot claim public funds, marry or register a civil partnership, or live in the UK through frequent successive visits.
Does a previous visa refusal affect a UK visitor application?Refusals
A previous refusal does not bar you from applying, and refusals from other countries are relevant too. What causes real difficulty is failing to disclose one. Non-disclosure is treated far more seriously than the original refusal, because it goes to the credibility of everything else in your application. Declare it and address what has changed since.
Do Indian passport holders get a UAE visa on arrival?Tourist
Only conditionally. An Indian ordinary passport alone does not qualify you. You also need a valid visa, residence permit or Green Card from the United States, the United Kingdom or the European Union, or since 13 February 2025 a valid residence permit from Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea or Singapore. Without one of those, you need an entry permit arranged before you travel.
How long is the UAE visa on arrival valid for Indian nationals?Tourist
It is a visitor entry of 14 days, extendable once for a similar period. The extension is available one time only, so if your trip is planned around a longer stay this route will not accommodate it even if you qualify. Plan the length of the trip around the permission, not the other way round.
How much validity do my documents need for a UAE visa on arrival?Documentation
Both your passport and the qualifying document need at least six months validity. A US visa or UK residence permit with four months remaining does not qualify you, even though it remains valid for its own country. Travellers commonly check the passport and forget the second document.
What if I do not qualify for a UAE visa on arrival?Tourist
You arrange an entry permit before travelling, applied for through a sponsor rather than by you directly. That sponsor is usually an airline, hotel, licensed tour operator, or a relative or company resident in the UAE. Durations and fees vary by permit type and issuing authority, so confirm the current position before booking anything non-refundable.
Does the same UAE entry process apply in Dubai and the other emirates?General
Not entirely. The UAE administers visitor entry both federally and at emirate level, and Dubai has its own residency and foreigners affairs authority with its own service pages and fees. Guidance you find may describe a different authority from the one governing your entry point, so check the authority for the emirate you are actually flying into.
Can I leave the airport during a UAE transit stop?General
Not automatically. Transiting through a UAE airport is not the same as being permitted to enter the country, and leaving the airport requires appropriate permission for entry. If your itinerary includes a long layover you intend to spend in the city, treat that as an entry question and resolve it before you travel rather than at the airport.
Can I still renew my US visa without an interview?Tourist
Only within a narrow window. Since 1 October 2025 the interview waiver covers B-1, B-2, B1/B2 and Border Crossing Card renewals made within 12 months of the previous visa expiring, where that visa was issued for full validity and you were at least 18. You must have no unresolved prior refusal and must apply in your country of nationality or residence. A consular officer can still require an interview.
My US visa expired three years ago. Do I qualify for a waiver?Tourist
No. The renewal window is 12 months from the expiry of the previous visa. A visa that lapsed three years ago places you outside it, so plan for an in-person interview and build your timeline around appointment availability rather than around a dropbox submission.
How much is the US B1/B2 application fee?Tourist
The non-immigrant visa application fee, known as the MRV fee, is USD 185 for a B1/B2. It is paid before your appointment and is not refunded if the application is refused. A separate reciprocity or issuance fee can apply after approval depending on nationality and category, so check the official fee schedule for your total.
How long is the wait for a US visa appointment in India?Tourist
Appointment availability changes constantly and differs by consular post and visa category, so any figure quoted in an article will be wrong by the time you read it. The Department of State publishes current wait times by post. Check the post you will apply at on the day you are planning, and build your timeline from that.
Does a previous refusal affect interview waiver eligibility?Refusals
Yes. Having never been refused a visa is one of the conditions, unless the refusal was overcome or waived. A prior refusal therefore removes the waiver route as well as affecting the application itself. Declare it either way, because non-disclosure damages credibility far more than the refusal does.
How much does the DS-160 matter if I have an interview?Interviews
A great deal. The consular officer reads your DS-160 during the interview, so it is the application rather than a preliminary form. Differences between what you wrote and what you say are usually careless rather than dishonest, but they are read as inconsistency. Re-read it before you attend.
Can Indian citizens travel to Canada on an eTA instead of a visa?Tourist
Not currently. Canada allows citizens of certain visa-required countries to apply for an eTA for air travel, on condition they held a Canadian visitor visa in the past 10 years or hold a valid US non-immigrant visa. India is not among the eligible countries, so Indian citizens generally apply for a Temporary Resident Visa. The eligible list has been extended before, so confirm it on the official page.
Does holding a US visa help my Canadian application?Tourist
Not as a substitute for a visitor visa. A valid US non-immigrant visa is one condition of the eTA route, but that route is only open to citizens of countries on the eligible list, and India is not on it. Your US visa may still be useful supporting evidence of travel history, which is a different thing from an entry permission.
What does a Canadian visitor visa cost?Tourist
The visitor visa fee is CAD 100 per person, with a maximum of CAD 500 for a family of five or more applying at the same time and place. Biometrics add CAD 85 per person, capped at CAD 170 for a family of two or more eligible applicants applying together.
Do I need to give biometrics again for a second Canadian application?Documentation
Usually not. Biometrics given for a Canadian visitor visa, study permit or work permit stay valid for 10 years, and within that period you do not need to give them again for a further visitor visa, work permit or study permit. Check when you last gave them before paying the fee or booking a collection appointment.
Should my family apply for Canadian visitor visas together?Family
It is usually cheaper. Family fee maximums apply when a family applies at the same time and place: CAD 500 for the visa where five or more people apply, and CAD 170 for biometrics where two or more eligible people apply. Applying separately out of habit can cost more with no advantage.
Would an eTA cover entering Canada by land from the United States?Tourist
No. Even for travellers whose nationality makes them eligible, the eTA covers air travel only. Arriving by car, bus, train or boat, including a cruise ship, requires a visitor visa. If your itinerary includes crossing overland from the US, plan for the visa regardless.
Can I apply for a Singapore visa myself from India?Tourist
No. An entry visa application is submitted on your behalf, not lodged directly by you. The routes are an online submission by a strategic partner or a local contact in Singapore, an application at a Singapore Overseas Mission, or an authorised visa agent. Identifying who will submit for you is the first step, not a detail to sort out later.
How much does a Singapore entry visa cost?Tourist
A processing fee of SGD 30, paid online by credit or debit card. It is non-refundable, so it is not returned if the application is unsuccessful. Any additional charge you are quoted beyond that belongs to the agent submitting for you, not to the authority.
Is the SG Arrival Card a visa?General
No, and it is free. The SG Arrival Card is a separate submission and grants no permission to enter. Completing it does not affect your visa requirement. Sites charging a fee to fill it in for you are not official services, and paying one leaves your actual visa position unchanged.
How long does a Singapore visa take to process?Tourist
Normally within three working days, excluding the day of submission, though some applications take longer. Apply within the thirty days before your arrival. The window is narrow at both ends, so aim for the middle of it rather than either edge.
Does my Singapore visa decide how long I can stay?General
No. The entry visa lets you travel to Singapore and present yourself at immigration. The period of stay is decided at the checkpoint. Since March 2022 visitors are notified of their Visit Pass digitally by email, with nothing endorsed in the passport, and that notification states the stay granted and the last day allowed.
Do Indian official or diplomatic passport holders need a Singapore visa?General
No. The visa requirement applies to ordinary Indian passports; holders of official and diplomatic Indian passports are exempt. Each traveller is assessed on the passport they personally hold, so one family member's exemption does not extend to relatives travelling on ordinary passports.
Can Indian passport holders use an NZeTA instead of a visa?Tourist
No. The NZeTA is for travellers holding passports from countries on New Zealand's visa waiver list, and India is not on it. Indian passport holders apply for a Visitor Visa. Australian citizens travelling on an Australian passport need neither, which matters if you are travelling with someone who holds one.
What does a New Zealand visitor visa cost from India?Tourist
The Visitor Visa starts from NZD 441, and most visitors also pay the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy of NZD 100 when they apply. Budget both together. Some categories are exempt from the levy, including Business Visitor Visa and APEC business travel card holders, so check whether yours is before assuming it applies.
Is the New Zealand visitor levy refunded if my application is declined?Tourist
No. Immigration New Zealand states that the levy is not refunded even where an application is declined. That makes a weak application more expensive here than in most places, and it is a strong argument for getting the file right before submitting rather than treating a first attempt as a trial run.
How long can I stay in New Zealand on a visitor visa?Tourist
On a multiple-entry visa, up to a total of six months in each twelve-month period. On a single-entry visa, up to nine months within an eighteen-month period. The multiple-entry figure is cumulative rather than per visit, so leaving and returning does not reset it. Add up any time already spent before planning a second trip.
Can I work remotely from New Zealand on a visitor visa?Work
New Zealand allows working remotely for a business overseas while visiting, which many countries do not. It is not permission to take up work in New Zealand. Describe it precisely: a visit during which you keep working for your employer at home reads very differently from a trip described loosely as a work visit.
Can Indian passport holders apply for K-ETA?Tourist
No. K-ETA is for nationals of countries that can enter Korea without a visa, and Indian passport holders are not in that group. The route is a short-term visitor visa instead. Applying for a K-ETA, or paying a site to apply for one, does nothing about the requirement you actually have.
What does a South Korean tourist visa cost from India?Tourist
The basic rate for a single-entry C-3-9 tourist visa, permitting a stay of no more than 90 days, is USD 40. Korean missions publish these as basic rates and note that different fees apply to some countries, so confirm the figure with the mission handling your application. The visa application centre charges its own service fee on top.
Where do I submit a Korean visa application in India?Tourist
Through the Korea Visa Application Centre, which the Embassy operates in partnership with VFS Global. The Centre handles the whole process rather than only collection: submission, processing, issuance, collection and counselling. Korea maintains an Embassy in New Delhi and Consulates General in Mumbai and Chennai, and which one is competent depends on where you live.
Why do sites offer to file a K-ETA for me if I cannot use one?General
Because the scheme is heavily publicised and few articles state who it is actually for. The official K-ETA service says applications are made only through its own website or app, and warns against third-party agencies charging inflated fees. A large quote for a Korean travel authorisation is a signal to stop, especially when the product may not apply to your passport.
Which short-term category should I apply under for Korea?Business
C-3 covers several short-term purposes and C-3-9 is the tourist one. Choose the category that describes your actual trip. Applying under tourism because it looks simplest, when the real purpose is a conference or business meetings, creates a mismatch between what you asked for and what your documents show.
Is an electronic travel authorisation the same as a visa?General
No. An authorisation is a light pre-screening added on top of visa-free travel, for people who were already going to be admitted without a visa. It creates no new route for travellers whose nationality requires one. Eligibility is decided by nationality before anything else about you is considered.
Which travel authorisations can Indian passport holders apply for?General
None of the five major ones. Indian passport holders are not eligible for the UK ETA, the Canadian eTA, ETIAS, the NZeTA or K-ETA, because each is limited to nationalities that can enter without a visa. In every case the route remains a visa. Eligibility lists do change, so confirm on the destination's own page before planning.
Does holding a US visa make me eligible for the Canadian eTA?General
Not on its own. A valid US non-immigrant visa is one condition of Canada's eTA route, which is why the belief persists, but the applicant's nationality has to be on the eligible list first and India is not currently among them. The condition is real; the eligibility is the part that gets dropped in retelling.
What is the difference between an eVisa and a travel authorisation?General
An eVisa is a real visa, assessed as one, delivered electronically instead of as a passport sticker. Japan issues Indian applicants an eVisa on exactly that basis. A travel authorisation is not a visa at all and screens people who do not need one. The delivery format tells you nothing; what matters is who the scheme is for.
Why do websites sell travel authorisations I cannot use?General
Because the schemes are cheap, heavily publicised and easy to imitate, and travellers rarely discover the problem until departure. Korea's own K-ETA service warns against third-party agencies charging inflated fees and states that applications are made only through its website or app. If a service is selling an authorisation for a country where you need a visa, there is nothing genuine being sold.
How much bank balance do I need for a visa?Documentation
There is no official minimum, and any figure presented as the threshold is invented. What is assessed is whether your funds are consistent with the trip you have described and whether their origin can be explained. A modest balance that clearly comes from regular declared income often reads better than a large one that appeared recently from nowhere.
What is the difference between Form 16, Form 26AS and the ITR acknowledgement?Documentation
Form 16 is a tax deduction certificate from your employer showing tax deducted from your salary. Form 26AS is the Income Tax Department's own record against your PAN of tax deducted and collected at source. The ITR acknowledgement is proof that you filed a return. They differ in who authored them, which is exactly why an officer reads them together rather than accepting any one alone.
Will a large deposit just before applying help my application?Documentation
Usually the opposite. A balance that appears shortly before submission raises the question it was meant to answer, because it reads as arranged rather than accumulated. If the money has a genuine source, such as a property sale or a maturing deposit, document that source and include it. An unexplained credit invites the officer to supply their own explanation.
What if part of my income is in cash and does not appear in my bank statement?Documentation
This is common and is not disqualifying, but it does break the chain between what you earn and what your documents show. Provide whatever independent corroboration exists, such as tax records, business registration or GST filings, and be consistent about what you declare. The problem is not modest declared income; it is a gap nobody has explained.
Can I use my parent's or spouse's bank account as financial proof?Family
You can rely on a sponsor, but naming them is not the same as evidencing them. Document who they are, their relationship to you, their own financial position, and their willingness to fund the trip. Funds sitting in someone else's account with no explanation of the relationship read as unavailable to you rather than as support.
What does a visa sponsor actually guarantee?Documentation
More than the trip's cost. In the Netherlands, for example, a sponsor is guarantor for costs relating to the visitor's stay, medical care and repatriation. Repatriation is the item sponsors rarely anticipate. Scope is set nationally, so read the form your destination publishes before asking anyone to sign it.
How long does a sponsorship obligation last?Documentation
Potentially far longer than the visit. In the Netherlands it ends when the visitor leaves the Schengen area or five years after the form was legalised, whichever comes first. A two-week holiday can carry a commitment that stays live long afterwards, which is something a sponsor deserves to know before signing.
Can any relative abroad sponsor my visa application?Family
No. Destinations set eligibility conditions for sponsors. The Dutch conditions require residence in the country, being at least 18, holding the citizen service number, and having steady and sufficient income for the next twelve months. That last one is forward-looking, so a relative on a contract ending shortly may not qualify however willing they are.
I am staying with one relative and a different relative is paying. Is that a problem?Family
Not a problem, but it is two roles and both need documenting. Where the payer is not the person you are staying with, the host is generally required to provide a separate invitation or their own sponsorship form. A single form covering both leaves half the arrangement unevidenced.
If someone sponsors me, do I still need to show my own finances?Documentation
Usually yes. Sponsorship answers affordability; it does not answer intent. Your own circumstances still speak to whether the trip is plausible and whether you will return, which is a separate question from who pays for the hotel. Treating sponsorship as a replacement for your own evidence is a common way to weaken an otherwise sound application.
Do I need previous international travel to get a visa?General
No. No visa system requires it. What officers assess is whether you will leave at the end of the visit, and a travel record is one proxy for that among several. Applicants without one very often also have thin evidence of ties or a vague itinerary, and those are the fixable parts.
What does it mean that US law presumes immigrant intent?General
Under section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, every applicant apart from certain categories is presumed to be an immigrant until they establish entitlement to nonimmigrant status. Officers are required to start from that assumption, and most nonimmigrant refusals are made on that basis. Your application exists to displace it.
What counts as ties to my home country?General
Officially, professional, work, school, family or social links: the aspects of life that bind you to it. In practice that means employment, business dependency, property, family responsibilities including dependants and elderly parents, and studies with a defined end date. Most applicants have more of these than they think to document.
Should I take a short trip somewhere easy first to build travel history?General
Only if you want the trip. A brief, out-of-character journey shortly before a major application does not read as travel history; it reads as preparation for the application. If you travel, let the record be genuine. Time and money spent on making your ties visible will usually do more.
Can I appeal a refusal based on insufficient ties?Refusals
For a US refusal under section 214(b), no waiver is available at the time of visa application, so there is no discretionary route around it. The response is a stronger application rather than an appeal. A refusal on these grounds is a judgement that the evidence did not displace the presumption, not a finding that you were dishonest.
I am self-employed and have no Form 16. What do I submit instead?Documentation
Rebuild the same corroboration from other sources: your GST registration certificate, income tax acknowledgements for the period requested, Form 26AS where clients deduct tax at source, and stamped bank statements. The point of Form 16 is that somebody other than you issued it, so the substitutes are chosen for the same quality.
Does Form 26AS apply to self-employed applicants?Documentation
Yes, and it is commonly overlooked. Form 26AS is the Income Tax Department's own statement against your PAN showing tax deducted and collected at source. Where clients deduct tax when paying you, those deductions appear there. It gives you what a salaried applicant gets from Form 16: an income record neither you nor your accountant wrote.
Why does my GST registration matter for a visa application?Documentation
Because it is independently checkable. The certificate records your GSTIN, legal name, trade name, constitution of the business and principal place of business, and the GST portal offers a public taxpayer search. That lets a third party confirm your business exists without relying on anything you wrote. Note there is no physical certificate; it is issued electronically.
My income is seasonal and three months of statements looks weak. What can I do?Documentation
Supply the period requested and add context rather than substituting stronger months. Let your annual tax acknowledgements carry the fuller picture, explain any large single receipt at the time, and say so if a client settled several invoices together. Swapping the window is visible, because statement periods are sequential.
Nobody can write me a leave sanction letter. Is that a problem?Business
No, but the question behind it still needs answering. A leave letter shows your absence is authorised and temporary and that something expects you back. For a business owner the equivalent is staff who remain, premises with ongoing costs, contracts extending past the trip, or a commitment scheduled after your return. A business is harder to abandon than a job, which works in your favour once it is evidenced.
My child is travelling with me but my spouse is not. What do we need?Family
Commonly a written consent statement from the parent who is not travelling, notarised by a public notary. Consulates in India also ask for the child's birth certificate and passport copies of both parents holding custody, and the form and declarations signed by both. Start the notarisation early, because it needs an appointment rather than a signature at home.
Does a consent letter need to be notarised?Family
Where the checklist says notarised, yes, and a statement typed and signed at home does not satisfy it. Somebody has to attend a public notary. This is consistently the last document families obtain and the one that determines whether you can submit on the date you planned, so book it before the rest of the paperwork.
I have sole custody of my child. What should I submit?Family
A copy of the court order or other official proof of custody or guardianship, rather than an explanation in a covering letter. The consent framework assumes two signatures, so where only one parent can sign, the document establishing why needs to be in the file. A deceased parent should be evidenced with a death certificate.
Does my young child have to attend the visa appointment?Family
For Schengen applications submitted in India the applicant must appear in person even where they are under 18. Plan the appointment around a child who has to be present. Biometric requirements differ by age and destination, so confirm what applies for your child's age with the mission handling the application.
Who can accompany a child to the UK?Family
You may identify up to two adults in the application, and their names appear on the child's visa. That makes the choice a commitment rather than a formality, because swapping the accompanying adult afterwards is not a small adjustment. Where the adult is not a parent, specific information about them is required in the application.
Can I appeal a Schengen visa refusal?Refusals
Yes. The European Commission states that a rejected applicant is told why the application was rejected and how to submit an appeal. The appeal is brought against the state that made the decision, with procedure and deadlines set by that state. Read the stated grounds before deciding, because they tell you whether an appeal or a stronger fresh application is the better move.
Can I appeal a UK visitor visa refusal?Refusals
Generally not. Home Office guidance states that where no human rights claim has been made, a visitor visa application should be refused with no right of appeal and no right to seek administrative review. Administrative review is limited to eligible decisions, and a standard visitor refusal is usually not one. Reapplying with a stronger case is the route.
Can I request a review and submit a new application at the same time?Refusals
No, and attempting both loses you one of them. A pending administrative review is withdrawn if you make any other immigration or visa application, and a review requested after a new application has been submitted is rejected. Where a review is available it is a choice against reapplying, so decide which route you are taking before doing either.
How soon should I reapply after a refusal?Refusals
Not immediately by reflex. Speed is what produces a second refusal on the same grounds. If your circumstances have not changed and your evidence has not improved, waiting until one of those is true is a better use of the time than a second attempt at the same file. Where grounds were stated, address them specifically.
Does a refusal from one country affect applications to another?Refusals
Yes, because most application forms ask about previous refusals from any country and non-disclosure damages credibility far more than the refusal does. It can also change which route is open to you later: never having been refused is a condition of the narrowed US interview waiver, so a refusal anywhere can remove that option.
Do Indian nationals need a visa just to change planes in Europe?Tourist
Generally yes. German missions state that Indian nationals normally require an airport transit visa for the Schengen area. It permits a short stopover in the international transit area only, with no leaving the airport and no overnight hotel stay. A visa for your final destination does not cover the countries you pass through.
Which other visas exempt me from the Schengen airport transit visa?Tourist
Indian nationals holding a valid visa or residence permit from a Schengen state, Bulgaria, Romania, Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Ireland, Canada, Japan or the USA are exempt, as are holders of a UK Biometric Residence Permit. Check what you already hold before applying, because an existing visa often removes the requirement entirely.
What decides which UK transit visa I need?Tourist
Whether you cross border control, not how long you stay. A Direct Airside Transit visa covers changing flights without going through border control; a Visitor in Transit visa covers passing through it and leaving within 48 hours. Your airline can tell you which applies, since it depends on the airport and terminals.
My layover is overnight. Does a transit visa cover a hotel?Tourist
No. A Schengen airport transit visa does not permit leaving the international transit area or an overnight hotel stay, and a UK stay beyond 48 hours needs a Standard Visitor visa instead. If the layover is long enough to want a bed, you are applying for the wrong category and should price a short-stay visa in.
Do I need a visa to connect through a US airport?Tourist
If you require a visa for the United States, yes. Transit visas cover people in immediate and continuous transit en route elsewhere, and a connection falls within that. Where you want the layover for another purpose, such as seeing friends, you need the visa appropriate to that purpose. Price the visa and timeline in before booking a fare routed through the US.
Where can I find the official list of visa-free countries for Indian passports?General
The Ministry of External Affairs publishes it, split into e-visa, visa-free entry and visa on arrival, with a remarks column giving the conditions attached to each destination. Most articles on this subject are copies of that page with the remarks removed, which is where the answer usually lives. Read the source.
Is the government list definitive?General
It is the best starting point and it disclaims its own accuracy. The page states the information comes from public and external sources, that the Ministry is not responsible for its accuracy, and that travellers should verify with the relevant embassy or consulate. No aggregated list can be authoritative, because each destination governs its own entry and revises it without notifying publishers.
Why do so many visa on arrival options depend on other visas I hold?General
Because destinations often extend easier entry to travellers already screened by a major issuing country. Egypt's visa on arrival calls for a valid US, Schengen, UK or GCC visa; the Philippines extends its visa-free period for holders of specified visas; the UAE grants arrival visas to Indian nationals holding qualifying permits elsewhere. How easily you travel depends heavily on what is already in your passport.
Does visa-free entry mean I am guaranteed to be let in?General
No. Admission is the border authority's decision everywhere, and visa-free destinations commonly still require passport validity, a return ticket and proof of funds. Several issue an entry permit on arrival with its own duration and conditions. Visa-free describes what you do before travelling, not what happens at the border.
Does a visa-free destination cover the countries I fly through?General
No. Transit points have their own requirements and are assessed separately. Indian nationals generally need an airport transit visa for the Schengen area, and a US connection requires a transit visa. Check every stop on the itinerary rather than the destination alone.
What must Schengen travel insurance actually cover?Documentation
Four things, under Article 15 of the Visa Code: repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention, emergency hospital treatment, and death. A policy listing hospital and outpatient treatment but silent on repatriation does not meet the requirement, whatever total it advertises. Read the schedule of benefits rather than the headline figure.
Is EUR 30,000 of cover enough?Documentation
It is the legal minimum, and some member states consider that threshold insufficient. Buying at exactly the minimum leaves no margin if the deciding state expects more, and the premium difference between the minimum and a comfortably higher limit is usually small. Treat the figure as a floor rather than a target.
Can my policy cover only the country I am visiting?Documentation
No. The insurance must be valid throughout the member states applying the Schengen provisions in full, not solely your destination. A policy naming France is insufficient for an itinerary that also touches Belgium, and the visa itself permits movement across the area regardless of what you planned.
My policy ends on my return flight date. Is that a problem?Documentation
Yes. Cover must extend across the entire period of stay, and a policy expiring on the return date leaves the final day exposed, with a delayed or rebooked flight leaving more than that. Extend the cover by a day at each end; it costs very little and removes the question entirely.
Can I buy Schengen insurance from any provider?Documentation
Not necessarily. German missions in India require the policy to come from approved Indian travel insurance companies. Buying online from an international provider because the price looked better can leave you with cover the deciding mission will not accept. Confirm which insurers are acceptable before purchasing.
Can Indian passport holders use an Australian ETA or eVisitor?Tourist
No. The eVisitor, subclass 651, is for European passport holders, and the Electronic Travel Authority, subclass 601, covers a set of nationalities that does not include India. Indian travellers apply for a Visitor visa, subclass 600. Time spent pursuing the electronic alternatives is time lost from the actual application.
What is a No Further Stay condition?Tourist
A condition that prevents the holder from applying for many temporary and permanent visas while they are in Australia. It does not shorten your visit or stop you returning later; it removes the option of changing plans from inside the country, such as enrolling in a course or extending. A waiver exists in certain circumstances but is not routine.
How long can I stay in Australia on a visitor visa?Tourist
The Tourist stream permits visits of up to 12 months for tourism, a cruise, or visiting family and friends. The period actually granted is set on your visa, so read the grant rather than assuming the maximum, and check the conditions attached to it at the same time.
How much does an Australian visitor visa cost?Tourist
There is no single figure, which is why we do not quote one. The charge is a base application charge with further components that can apply, including charges for additional applicants and a subsequent temporary application charge in some circumstances. Home Affairs publishes a visa pricing estimator for exactly this reason; use it for your own circumstances.
Which subclass 600 stream should I apply under?Business
The one that describes your trip. Tourist covers tourism, cruises and visiting family and friends; Business Visitor covers meetings and conferences; Sponsored Family applies where a relative in Australia sponsors the visit. Choosing Tourist because it looks like the default creates a mismatch between the category and the documents supporting it.
